The world-renowned Japanese company Janome was founded on October 16, 1921. The brand name Janome means "snake's eye" in Japanese. It was then that the round bobbin, which resembled a snake's eye, replaced the traditional shuttle.

Today, Janome has fourteen sales branches: two branches each in the USA and Germany, and one each in Canada, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and China.
